More About Dental Implants

Tooth Implants are made to replace the lost natural teeth due to decay, infection, trauma and periodontal disease. It is an artificial replacement for natural teeth. It is designed in such a way to mimic roots of a natural tooth. Dental implants are made of titanium metal, the only kind of metal that is compatible to human body.

Before implants are placed and inserted into the bone of upper or lower jaw, your implant dentist will require a thorough diagnosis to see if you are a candidate to receive the implants to check if you have quality bone enough to hold the implants. Normally, this will include taking of panoramic x-ray, intraoral pictures, impression to make the cast and to some extent a CBCT Scan that is now popular with Dental Implantologist for being accurate and precise when it comes to diagnosis. Unfortunately, this CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography) Dental Scan is not available in any dental clinic because of the high price of this machine.

A. Conventional Dental Implants

The treatment time for conventional type is around 3 to 6 months in 5 to 7 dental appointments with your implant dentist. This type of implant will attach to your bone in the process called Osseointegration. After the implants are totally integrated to your bone that is the only time your implant dentist can do the final prosthesis or the porcelain crown.

Some patients are even required to undergo bone grafting procedure if they do not have enough bone to support the implants. This will complicate the implant procedure and treatment time becomes longer. It can last even for more than a year.
Some patients have very low sinus for being edentulous (without teeth) for so many years. This will also complicate implants placement on the upper jaw and this might require bone grafting and sinus lifting procedures before implants can be placed.

One advantage of tooth implants compared to having removable dentures or porcelain crown or bridge is that it would prevent shrinkage of your bone after teeth have been extracted.

B. Mini dental Implants

This is the smaller type of tooth implants which is only 1.8mm to 3mm compared to 3.3mm to 5mm of conventional type. This is specifically made for patients whose ridge or bone have thinned because of being no teeth for a long period of time. Mini implants becomes an alternative dental treatment for patients who wants to have implants but cannot be accommodated by the conventional type.

One advantage of mini teeth implants is the shorter treatment time and practically no downtime. Mini dental implants can be placed in just one day with virtually no discomfort. It is just being screwed into your bone with no cutting of the gums and stiches to remove.

Some implant dentists will use mini dental implants to hold porcelain crown and bridges but some would discouraged this practice as this might cause  problem later on. Remember that there is no actual integration of implants into your bone unlike with the conventional dental implants thus there is the tendency for mini implants to get loose eventually.

One good use of mini dental implants is the stabilization of upper or lower complete dentures. Normally, four implants can be placed on upper or lower arch. This procedure can be done in 1 to 2 hours in one appointment with your implant dentist and presto you have a stable complete denture that you can use right away without discomfort.

My advice for patients who are thinking of having implants is to not wait too long and consult an implantologist  at once after you have undergone extraction. One to two months after tooth extraction is the ideal time to place an implants. Implants placement is rather an easy procedure so do not wait until your bones are all gone. You can save a lot of money, time and the inconvinience of having several surgical procedures if it can be done earlier.

One to five implants placement are usually done in the dental office set up but for more implants with bone grafting and sinus lifting procedures, my advice is to have it done inside the operating room under general anesthesia.

Teeeh implants are now common procedure in any dental clinic. So what are you waiting for? Come and visit a dentist in your area for consultation or come and visit us here in the Philippines and have a great discount on your dental procedure.

Teeth Whitening

What is the Process Involved in Laser Teeth Whitening?

Laser teeth whitening in Manila Philippines often involves activating a specific type of whitening agent, such as bleach, on the teeth with a laser. Typically, the process is completed in one 30 minute session, although additional care may be needed if the staining was severe.

Tooth Bleaching in Manila Philippines uses the chemicals in the whitening agent, but do not apply a laser. The chemical components between the two types of bleaching agents are different as well.

Is it Really Effective?

Many patients feel that both laser and bleaching are extremely effective for hard to remove yellowing or stains on the teeth. Unfortunately, bad habits like smoking and drinking coffee may cause the patient to re-bleach at a later time.

Is it true that it could damage your teeth or enamel?

Typically, the types of chemicals used in the dentist’s office are far kinder to your teeth than the ones bought for teeth whitening at home. In addition, dentists know just how long to leave the bleaching agents or laser on the teeth, and are experts at judging the pre-existing wear on the enamel. A good cosmetic dentist will weigh any enamel wear against the bleaching time and come up with a time frame that will not harm your teeth but will still lighten them considerably.

While it is true that bleaching your teeth at home is probably far less expensive, in the long run it is best to use professionals instead. This will keep your teeth safe from harm and will give you a beautiful and white smile as well

Bone Grafting

What is the Use of Bone Grafting Procedure in Dental Implants and in Periodontics?

Periodontal disease affects many people around the world, and it is a gum disease that can cause extreme decay in the bone tissue and the teeth itself. Until bone grafting came about, there was little that could be done to treat this serious gum disease.

Bone grafting or augmentation is the act of replacing decayed or missing bone with synthetic bone in the jaw or gum line. This will eventually give the dentist a place to place the implant, because otherwise there would be no way to keep the implant in place. In periodontal disease, bone grafting can allow the remaining teeth to reduce the amount of lost bone density, and have better looking and healthier teeth.

In order to find out more about bone grafting in Manila Philippines, those people who are diagnosed with periodontal disease need to see a dental specialist. Some general dentists will not work with patients who have periodontal disease, some dentists only specialize in this condition, and others will do both. You need to visit with a local practitioner and see if they can provide the special services you will need.

When it comes to treating Periodontics in Manila Philippines, many dentists are able to help tourists and residents alike to get the teeth they need, despite the missing bone tissue. In fact, bone augmentation may be the only way to ensure that remaining teeth can stay and that implants will be effective. Without bone grafting, patients will have to face the loss of more teeth, including implanted ones. It is crucial to get the very best dental care possible if you have even mild periodontal disease.

Dental Crowns, Bridges and Veneers

What are the Different Kinds of Porcelain Crowns and its Indication?

Dental crowns have been used for improved dental appearance for many years, and today’s techniques offer options and realistic looking teeth like never before. All porcelain crowns/metal free crowns are used for reconstruction of a tooth when a veneer is not a good option. These are the most realistic looking false tooth.

Different Kinds of Porcelain Crown and Advantages:
  • Zirconia Crowns – These are best for bridges, as they are the strongest type of crown.
  • Composite Crowns – Are less invasive to install and are a popular choice.
  • All Porcelain Crown (Emax) – All porcelain crowns are an excellent choice for the front teeth, especially, since they are the most natural looking and realistically mimic the same kind of natural teeth translucency.
  • Captek Crown – Offers quick healing time and excellent aesthetic quality.
  • Titanium and Non-Precious – Excellent for bridgework and creating an external jacket on damaged teeth.

One of the reasons that porcelain is so popular is that it can be used on pre-existing dental work. Does porcelain fuse to metal crown like gold? The answer is yes. In fact, these are exceptionally strong crowns for both the front and the back teeth. However, sometimes the aesthetic qualities may leave much to be desired with this type of crown combination.

For porcelain crowns fused to titanium/gold/non-precious metal in Manila Philippines, patients will need to find a dentist that specializes in porcelain-to-metal implants. Many Philippine dentists in this tropical area are well versed in cosmetic dental procedures, and can give a consultation before the procedure. Most crowns will blend perfectly with the existing teeth, and are an easy and affordable way to get a better looking smile.

What are the Different Types of Dental Veneers and Its Difference?

Many people are surprised to learn that there are several different types of dental veneers, and each is used for a different cosmetic purpose. While the overall effect of better looking teeth is the same, dentists may prefer one particular type over another.

Types of Dental Veneers
  • Porcelain veneers – these are the most popular and most used type of veneer. Porcelain provides the most natural looking veneer, although it may be more costly than other types. Unfortunately, porcelain veneers are often required to be created in a lab, and bonded at a later time.
  • Composite Veneers – These are typically a more affordable type of veneer, but do not last as long as the porcelain, and so must be replaced much sooner. The composite veneers can be applied to the surface of the teeth immediately, and there is no wait time.
  • Lumineers are a new type of veneer. The traditional dental veneers (Emax) require a greater amount of time and money to install, and may not be reversible. However, the Lumineers in Manila Philippines are reversible, and are said to last up to 20 years. In addition, the Lumineers do not require a lengthy wait to install. The patient can have a new smile in two visits.

Whatever type of veneer is chosen, this dental procedure is quickly becoming the most popular option for reversing unfortunate dental defects. The veneers are painless, fast, affordable and completely undetectable. Choose a dentist’s office in Manila that can provide a consultation to help you decide which type of veneer is right for you, and see what a difference porcelain can make to your life.

Will I Go for Dental Veneers or Dental Crowns?

Both dental veneers in Manila Philippines and a dental crown in Manila Philippines serve the same purpose: improving the appearance of the teeth by capping the exterior with a synthetic material.

The difference between veneers and crowns is subtle; a crown is thicker, and fits over the entire tooth, while a veneer is a very thin layer of porcelain that is applied to the front of the tooth. The disadvantage of a crown is that it can be more expensive, and the disadvantage of the veneer is that it may be more fragile.

For porcelain crowns in Manila Philippines, patients can experience hypoallergenic crowns that will completely mimic the look of real teeth. In addition, the porcelain crowns do not have the dark line at the gum line that gives away the presence of a false tooth or crown.

For porcelain veneers in Manila Philippines, a dental patient will experience a very non-invasive procedure that will instantly improve the appearance of the teeth. Some people may choose veneers instead of expensive orthodontia, simply because the appearance will improve so quickly and dramatically.

Which one is suited for me?

The dental patient needs to weigh the greater cost of the crowns against the smaller cost but less durability of the porcelain veneer. The amount of tooth decay, the presence of gum disease and the condition of the enamel may all be factors in helping the patient decide between veneers or crowns. Visit with a cosmetic or regular dentist and get more information for your specific needs. Each patient will have different costs for the procedure, due to the differing nature of their teeth.

What is Pediatric Dentistry and Its Procedures?

Pediatric dentistry concerns itself with the special needs of children’s teeth. If someone is looking for a dentist for kids in Manila Philippines, they probably realize that there is a big difference between dental work for adults and children.

Some of the particular problems that children have are cavities, tooth decay and poor hygiene. Although these in and of themselves are not serious problems, if left untreated, it could lead fairly quickly to serious dental issues such as periodontal disease, gingivitis and infection.

Pediatric dentists in Manila Philippines will focus on using a far more gentle touch with children’s teeth, as they are not yet fully developed, and are often quite soft in comparison with adult teeth. Children’s dentistry can also assess the future need for other procedures, such as braces or wisdom teeth removal.

As Manila is a popular area with tourists, dentists can provide the tourists with the dental help their children need, even when away from home. It is important for the dentist to work carefully so as not to install a fear of dentistry in the child, as this could set the tone for the rest of that child’s life.

Another important aspect of children’s dentistry is teaching and reinforcing the methods of correct oral hygiene. Children are notorious for not properly brushing, not flossing and eating sweets that cause cavities. A good pediatric dentist will understand these special needs and have the ability to not only treat the child’s teeth properly, but also make them feel safe and comfortable, despite having a need for dental care. Parents would do well to find a pediatric dentist that can provide all of those services.

What is Periodontitis or Gum Disease?

Gum disease is characterized by inflamed, receded, infected or unhealthy gums that have been inundated by bacteria. Periodontitis is the condition that will eventually cause the teeth to become impacted, fall out or recede the gum line to an extreme degree. This disease is caused by bacteria trapped in pockets around the teeth.

What are the possible procedures or treatment for this?

Visiting with a qualified Periodontist is the very best way to begin treatment. The dentist will use a scaler to remove all of the excess bacteria from the deep gum pockets. Many dentists also prescribe antibiotics as well.

Is there a way to prevent it?

Extremely good hygiene can help prevent gingivitis from turning into periodontal disease, but sometimes genetics will cause a problem regardless of the amount of hygienic intervention. Flossing regularly, using toothpicks to thoroughly clean debris, and brushing several times a day with a specialized tooth brush may help prevent this disease.

Periodontics in Manila Philippines includes bone grafting treatments to either implant a new tooth where one was lost, or to simply help replace the missing bone. In a vicious cycle, as the disease progresses, if left unchecked, eventually a great deal of bone is lost and the teeth will be lost with it.

If you have periodontal disease or suspect a problem, you need to find Periodontists in Manila Philippines. Manila is home to many clinics that specialize in treating this type of dental problem, and can help replace missing bone and missing teeth. Get a healthy mouth and look your best once again with the proper care and intervention of periodontal disease.
