For Dr. Maritoni Dela Cruz, the path to dentistry started with the fear of it, but her journey of conquering such fear was what drove her to where she is now. A graduate of Doctor of Dental Medicine from Centro Escular University in 1993, she realised early on that dentistry school can only offer so much in dealing with real-world cases, thus she pursued further training at the Pediatric Dentistry Philippine Children’s Medical Center in 1996, where she handled the challenging, sensitive task of treating pre-cooperative aged patients.
Ten years after that in 2006, being the driven individual that she is, she took up Preceptorship Training: Orthodontics, conducted by Dr. Manuel Reyes, to further refine and master her craft. And in July 2018, she decided to join Dental World Clinic, where she encountered a broad range of child cases.
As someone where fear was associated to going to the dentist when she was young, Dr. Dela Cruz possesses a unique perspective in empathizing with children who are afraid at first. This perspective affords her an insight that results in children feeling more receptive and comfortable, for which she considers one of the most rewarding part of what she does, aside from addressing whatever oral health car needs the child has.
Dr. Dela Cruz plans to attend to more post-grad trainings and seminars that can help her enrich the quality of treatment children deserves as she continues in her mission to not only address the dental needs of children but also overcome the fear they experience early on.
